Traditional Chinese Medical Acupuncture is recognized to support male and female fertility through restoring hormonal balance, helping to regulate a woman’s cycle, alleviating stress and promoting the overall health of the individual. Your individualized program may include acupuncture during the 3-4 months prior to desired conception, individualized nutrition, herbal or homeopathic medicine recommendations.

Acupuncture for IUI and IVF

Special visits are planned closely around assisted reproduction cycles according to research-based protocols. Acupuncture has been shown to improve IVF success rates by 60% (Paulus 2006).

Using the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture can be used to alleviate pain and other symptoms in many systems of the body, promote relaxation and stress relief, enhance hormonal balance and optimize fertility.

What Can I Expect from my Acupuncture Treatment?

Part of your visit will involve traditional tongue and pulse diagnosis as well as a discussion of your concerns with your practitioner. These techniques aid in identifying your Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis and the selection of acupuncture points that are indicated for your individual symptom picture. Most patients find acupuncture treatments to be very relaxing and to involve minimal (if any) pain. We use music or guided relaxation and the warm addition of infrared heating light to enhance the benefits of your treatment. Acupuncture is performed according to internationally-recognized techniques using extremely fine, sterile, single-use needles.

For chronic concerns, Acupuncture is typically performed in a series of 6-8 weekly to biweekly treatments. For acute issues such as a cough, cold or flu, or to encourage spontaneous labor in a post-dates pregnancy, Acupuncture can be provided 2-3 times per week until the condition is resolved.

Dr. Cherevaty also attends births in the Guelph area as a Naturopathic Doula where she can provide Acupuncture or Acupressure for help with pain relief, relaxation, or restarting stalled labor. The benefits of Acupuncture are often experienced with the first treatment, and continue to develop cumulatively through your course of care.
